Post Memorial Day Thoughts
These ponderings have been several days/weeks in the making, but now that I'm in a lull of naptime at the inlaws... Here they go.
Memorial Day is a time for us to reflect upon, and be greatful for those who have served our nation to protect our freedoms and rights. In my observation it tends to focused on those who preceeded us- and our forefathers and grandfathers are greatly worthy of our thanks and respect. My father and grandfathers took their turns in the service, and I am overwhelmed by their work and sacrifice for their families and nation. But for some reason, this year, 2005- my thoughts turn to recent and future troops.
Note: please forgive the typos and spelling errors, I was more concerned with getting this out than getting it grammatically/typographically correct. We've been violated!

somebody took the server that operates our website (and many others, its a shared virtual server) and messed it up good.
the company that manages these servers has posted what little info they know here
somehow, they were able to manipulate the php parser... the part of the web server that takes PHP scripts, the language we use here primarily... and converts it html which renders the pages the screens you see here- so that it added a chunk of malicious code to every php webpage it generated.
The good news is it wasn't just this site. It wasn't specifically and hatefully aimed AT us. (or so the evidence suggests at this point.)
The bad news is it wasn't just this site... but the server that hosts us and several other sites..
Star Wars- Episode 3
So the wife and I went to watch this whole sith thing on thursday during lunchtime... that was and cool and all.. being with the wife that is.. wish we could have gotten dinner tho.
I mean the movie was cool and all, great visual effects, couple of cool little action scenes, etc... ... well... sorta etc.. actually.. visuals and fighting stuff.. that's about it.
See, here's what's really odd.. one of the things that you'd think a geek would appretiate most of all is all that wonderful CGI.. nah. overkill. In fact, one of my favorite 5 second scenes is the brief clip in the halls of Organa's ship after picking up Ol' Ben. A real, beautitfully real, mockup that brought the memories of the original Star Wars, and the opening fierce battle in the hallway with R2 and 3PO running away..
Note: warning, spoilers. if you haven't seen the show, don't read. unless you take my word for it that it just won't make a difference.Projects
lets face it. I've gotten very bad at socializing. With strangers, with family, with friends of many decades- I've grown awkward and clumsy in even the most insignificant of pleasantries.
Night Terrors
Had my first run in with "Night Terrors" last night..
hadn't heard of them much before, except for once when flipping channels past 60 minutes or something..
but appearantly the child can appear completely and totally awake and yet still be soundly asleep and in the midst of a horrid nightmare...
let me tell you there's nothing as freaky as trying to calm down a child who's staring with the most fear in her face at the corner of her bedroom above the window like hell itself is pouring out, sobbing and choking back screams.
